As the Head of Milling and Rheology, you will be part of the research and development team that focuses on the quality and functionality of flour and dough. You will apply your expertise in cereal chemistry, milling technology, and dough rheology to optimize the performance of our products and processes. You will also collaborate with other scientists, engineers, and customers to provide technical support and innovative solutions. In addition, you will be responsible for leading, managing, and mentoring a team of rheology specialists. As enzymes are the key to our business, a profound knowledge of enzymes related to flour and baking is essential.
Head of Milling and Rheology (m/f/d)
Tasks
- Lead, manage, and mentor a team of rheology specialists, ensuring their professional development and performance evaluation
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee the activities and resources of the milling and flour analysis department, ensuring the alignment with the strategic goals and objectives of the research and development team and the company
- Perform grain and flour analyses relevant to the milling industry
- Interpret the results obtained and make recommendations for the use of the flour improvers
- Become the expert contact for our clients for questions and troubleshooting related to grain milling technology, to grain or flour analysis and flour quality problems
- Design and perform reproducible milling trials matching the reality and needs of the wheat milling clients
- New product development of flour treatment formulations for influencing of flour parameters utilizing enzymes, dough conditioners, specialty flours, proteins, emulsifiers, hydrocolloids, etc.
- Write reports and presentations in a clear, concise and meaningful way
- Review scientific or technical literature and pull together potential solutions based on prior work
- Make presentations to sales, business development personnel, at conferences, meetings and customer visits
- Provide customer support and visits with or without a sales rep to give technical assistance to customer-based projects
- Interface with sales team for commercialization of customer projects
Your Profile
- Master’s degree or PhD in food technology with focus on cereal science or milling technology or similar
- At least 3 years of relevant experience in the milling industry
- Ideally, a completed vocational training as a miller
- Familiar with the technical challenges of the mills and thus in the respective application
- Can design and conduct milling trials at the pilot mill
- Deep understanding of grain milling processes and technology and mill operations
- Strong hands-on-mentality
- Proficient in the use and maintenance of rheological instruments, such as farinograph, extensograph, alveograph, texture analyzer
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to apply statistical and mathematical methods to data analysis and modeling
- Experienced in project management and compliance with time and reporting requirements
- Highly motivated, creative, and self-directed, with the ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks
- Flexible and adaptable, with the willingness to travel and work in different environments and conditions
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in an international team and with external partners
- Demonstrated leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire, motivate, and coach a team of rheology specialists
- Very good command of English and basic command of German, both written and spoken. Additional languages are an advantage
