Safe Food – Protection Against Infectious Diseases – Healthy Animal Populations
The State Testing Office (LUA) is the central government agency in Rhineland-Palatinate responsible for consumer and health protection for both humans and animals. Together with our approximately 500 employees, we work at five locations in Koblenz, Landau, Mainz, Speyer, and Trier on the statewide monitoring and testing of food, consumer goods, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics; the diagnosis and control of animal diseases; and the protection of people from infectious diseases.
We are seeking, as soon as possible, a
veterinarian or
Food Chemist (2nd State Examination) or Master of Science (m/f/d) in the fields of microbiology, food technology, or nutritional sciences
up to Pay Grade 14 TV-L (depending on individual qualifications)
full-time (100%) as a temporary replacement for parental leave until September 30, 2027, at the Institute for Food of Animal Origin (Division 42) in the “Food, Consumer Goods, Cosmetics” department at the Koblenz location (Reference Number: LUA – 2026/067-We).
Your responsibilities:
- Commodity and sensory initial inspection of food products, particularly meat and sausage products, dairy products, and fish
- Microbiological testing of food products of animal and plant origin, including the detection of bacterial toxins
- Preparation of expert reports containing professional evaluations and assessments of the test results in accordance with food law
- Training of food inspectors and other professional groups, as well as interns
Your Profile:
- A successfully completed university degree in veterinary medicine with a license to practice as a veterinarian, or completion of the second state examination in food chemistry, or a completed master’s degree program in one of the above-mentioned disciplines.
- Experience in the field of food testing and food law assessment is a plus
- Experience working under quality management (QM) guidelines is a plus
- Experience with laboratory information management systems (LIMS) is a plus
- A highly conscientious work ethic, initiative, and a strong commitment to performance
- Excellent written and spoken German; good knowledge of standard computer applications as well as subject-specific software
- Teamwork and communication skills
- Discretion, reliability, and trustworthiness
