The Segeberg district, part of the Hamburg metropolitan region, is conveniently located in the heart of Schleswig-Holstein between the North Sea and the Baltic Sea, and is a reliable employer for approximately 1,100 employees.
The Food Inspection and Meat Hygiene Division currently consists of 14 employees. The division’s team is responsible for ensuring the official inspection of food, consumer goods, cosmetics, and tobacco products, as well as for the official ante-mortem and post-mortem inspection of animals in the Segeberg district. The goal is to protect consumers from health hazards and from misleading or deceptive practices, as well as to protect animals during slaughter.
Conducting ante-mortem and post-mortem inspections at EU-approved slaughterhouses (red meat), as well as ante-mortem inspections of live poultry at the farm of origin and ante-mortem inspections of animals shot while grazing
Conducting facility inspections, animal welfare inspections, sampling, hygiene monitoring, and reviews of facility-specific documentation at slaughterhouses and meat processing plants
Inspecting milking parlors and milk storage rooms at dairy farms
Documentation of inspections and monitoring, as well as initiation of any administrative, misdemeanor, or criminal proceedings
A completed degree in veterinary medicine and a license to practice as a veterinarian
Physical fitness to handle the specific demands associated with the advertised fieldwork duties (e.g., working in refrigerated and freezer rooms, exposure to airborne and noise hazards, contact with animals, and walking, standing, and kneeling on slippery floors)
Proficiency in spoken and written German (Proficiency level of at least C1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)
Willingness to work outside regular working hours and on weekends
A Class B or 3 driver’s license and willingness to use your own car in exchange for reimbursement of expenses

Motivation to advocate for animals
Expertise in food and meat hygiene regulations as well as animal welfare laws
IT skills in the MS Office suite
