The Flensburg University of Applied Sciences is looking to recruit a

Laboratory Engineer for Food Technology (d/m/w)

full-time on a permanent basis.


The advertised area of responsibility includes

  • Preparation, implementation and follow-up of laboratory exercises in the fields of food technology and chemical food analysis
  • Instructing students in practical work on processing plants in the food industry and in analytics
  • Support with project work, student research projects and final theses
  • Technical responsibility (maintenance, care, operation) for the modern food/meat technology laboratory with a complete industrial processing chain
  • Carrying out classic instrumental methods to determine key quality parameters (e.g. water content, fat, protein, sugar, carbohydrates, salt, nitrite, pH value)
  • Support, maintenance and calibration of analytical equipment
  • Participation in the development, calibration and validation of new analytical methods in accordance with applicable standards
  • Ensuring occupational safety, hygiene and technical operational readiness by implementing and monitoring safety, hygiene and environmental standards
  • Preparation of work instructions, SOPs, risk assessments and hygiene plans

The job profile:

Requirements for the advertised position are:

  • Completed university degree in food technology, meat technology (desirable), food chemistry or related disciplines
  • Practical experience in industrial food processing and chemical analysis
  • Sound knowledge in handling food technology systems, packaging technology and analytical equipment
  • Knowledge of hygiene management, occupational safety and food law (LMIV, LMHV, HACCP)
  • Independent, structured way of working and high technical affinity
  • Enjoy working with students, pedagogical skills and strong communication skills
  • Confident handling of MS Office; ideally experience with laboratory information systems (LIMS)
  • Proof of very good German language skills, comparable to at least level C1 of the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages of the Council of Europe)
  • Proof of an English language qualification of at least level B2 of the CEFR or the willingness to acquire this within one year
  • Confident appearance, ability to work in a team and organizational skills

Also desirable:

  • Initial experience in the industrial food processing of meat and meat products
  • Vocational training in the food processing sector
  • Experience in instructing and training

In the case of qualifications obtained abroad, proof of recognition in Germany is required. Please submit this together with your application documents.
